Vineyards

The Cretan landscape is beautiful, with a natural complexity which is quite unique in this world. Located in the foothills of the White Mountains, at Alikambos, our vineyards that surround the winery are a true reflection of the diversity of this wonderful land. Located at 330 meters above sea level each vineyard has its own microclimate, unique soil quality, and grape variety, all of which generate juice of distinctive quality, ideal for wines of character. Our vines are all organic and treated with respect and love for their natural environment.
In Kefala, an area that surrounds the winery, we have 3 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon organically cultivated. This vineyard is located on rocky subsoil with only a few inches of surface soil, and it is necessary to irrigate during the long hot summer months. Nearby, in the region of Zourva is our second vineyard, where we cultivate the French variety Grenache Rouge. Here the soil is thick clay, rich in nutrients and moist throughout the year.
In addition to our own vineyards, it has been our practice since the inception of the winery, to also co-operate with dynamic young vine growers in the region. We feel this has also contributed to the history and success of the winery.
In the near future Andreas Ntourakis is planning to further develop the vineyards, by planting 40 acres of some of the more promising indigenous Cretan grape varietals such as Mantilari, Kotsifali, and Vidiano. This together with the experimentation and creation of biodynamic farming methods is one of the most daunting challenges for him and the winery.
